Long Distance Bike Riding - Cycling from Flagstaff AZ to Laughlin NV

It is exactly 200 miles from Flagstaff to Laughlin NV and it is mostly downhill as Flagstaff is at 7000 feet and Laughlin is only 535 feet. So you might say this is a cyclists dream and yet there are some rolling hills with some steep grades on the way down to Laughlin NV and occasionally we will be giving back our decent numbers as we go. But for the most part the numbers do not lie and it will indeed be a nice change of pace and an enjoyable ride down the hills. Check the brakes and we are good to go.

We will head out of Flagstaff to Williams where we pick up Old Route 66 and take that all the way into Kingman, AZ and pick up Highway 68 into Laughlin, via over a mountain pass, there is a grade on the way up, but it is all down hill after the 3600 foot Union Pass down to the Colorado River Bridge separating Nevada and Arizona.

This will be an enjoyable ride indeed and a change of scenery and maybe we can get our kicks on Route 66. Still it is 200-miles and we are completely wiped from crossing over the Mountains and Painted Desert into Flagstaff and all those trains all night did affect our sleeping a little. Who knows luck has been with us so far, maybe we might win some money in the slots before we have to cross that insane California Desert? Consider all this in your Trek Across America in 2006.
