Tummy Tuck Scar

Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty surgery involves creating a long incision spanning from one hip to the other; dipping towards the upper pubic area in the middle. Another incision is also performed around the navel to separate the skin from that area. A new hole in the skin is cut to accommodate the navel when stitching up after the surgery. With all the incisions that are being done, one will normally worry about the scars being left behindespecially in the case of a tummy tuck since it is performed to better you waistline and tighten your tummy.

A good indication of how your tummy tuck wound would heal is from the old wounds that you might have. There would have been moments in your life where you either fell off a tree or fell off your bike or the likes. Have a look and see how these old wounds heal and you will get a pretty good idea of how your tummy tuck scar would look like. Some people heal very well so they stand a very good chance of ending with a barely noticeable scar after undergoing a tummy tuck. For the others, expect a scar that ranges from noticeable to a scar that remains raised and fails to fade.

The good news is that raised scars are infrequent in plastic surgery. This is because plastic surgeons are well versed in handling scars because their careers depend on how wonderful the results are. Have your tummy tuck surgeon show you pictures of previous patients and how their wounds healed over time. Most tummy tuck surgeons would have a photo album of post-surgical scars and how they healed. This will give you a good indication of what to expect.

Tummy tuck scars are located just above the bikini line in most cases so a swimsuit will hide it away nicely. Some fashions of bikinis will also do a good job of concealing the tummy tuck scar. If you are a candidate of tummy tuck surgery, chances are the new flat tummy that you get after a tummy tuck will outweigh the worry of carrying a scar for life. But then again, plastic surgeons are also experts at removing scars.
